".the cottages are private. yet within reach of each other."
Four of our cottages, Daisy Bank, Stonewell, Swingletree and The Oxbow are barn conversions, all single-storey. They are about 100 metres from each other with their own grounds, giving each cottage plenty of privacy and yet near enough for group bookings for family and friends. Our fifth cottage, Fishers Cottage, is the wing to our own farmhouse and is the only cottage with stairs. Even here, there is a single bedroom with en-suite shower room downstairs making all our cottages suitable for people who prefer easy walking access.
".and there's plenty to do and look at just outside the door."
Park Farm has a level grass lawn with an outdoor table tennis table and badminton net (for fun badminton only as there is no court marked out). We also have a croquet set available (again just for fun!). For more serious sport we have an all weather tennis court. Just next to the games lawn there is a free standing barrel barbeque for enjoying an outdoor feast after all the energetic exercise. Alternatively each cottage has a patio with patio furniture so that an al fresco meal can be enjoyed in your own space. The horse drawn ploughs, hoes and harrows which were once used here at Park Farm have been repainted and placed in a collection just by the games lawn. In nearby paddocks there are small coups of unusual poultry and often the ponies come up to the fence to say hello.
".. a tree-lined footpath..this five minute walk takes you to the edge of Stow-on-the-Wold."
Maugersbury is linked to Stow-on-the-Wold by a tree lined footpath, once a splendid gated road for horses and carriages going to and from the C16th Maugersbury Manor. From the cottages this five minute walk leads to The Bell Inn, our friendly local pub which serves good food, on the edge of Stow and slightly further on in the town there are many interesting antique shops, art galleries and excellent restaurants (try The Old Butcher's Shop 01451 831700 or The Eagle and Child 01451 830663, but there are lots more!). Stow-on-the-Wold is a typical Cotswold Market Town with the fine "St. Edwards' Church", rebuilt on the revenue of the wool trade in the C13th, C14th and C15th, and picturesque houses clustered around the market square.
"...if you're serious about walking."
Maugersbury is situated on the Macmillan Way which passes through the wonderful villages of Lower Slaughter to the west and Upper Oddington (good pub The Horse and Groom) and Lower Oddington (good pub The Fox Inn) to the east. It is also easy to get to the Oxfordshire Way, Gloucestershire Way and Monarch's Way all of which lead through beautiful Cotswold villages and countryside which is, by road, hidden from view. Yet another footpath leads southwards from Maugersbury to Icomb and the reward for this effort is the stunning view back towards Stow-on-the-Wold. (See www.multimap.co.uk for footpaths in red).
